You know, this tie was knotted from Sept. 4, 2007 (the date of my reception) till Dec. 28, 2008.
I used to just slip the tie loose and tighten it to wear it and loosen it again to remove it. Now I should learn to do it properly. I used to do it when I was in school, but I was never happy with the shape of the 'samosa'. It never used to be perfect.
Well, school ties are often just shirt/trouser material stitched into a tie. For these single knots will not do. The samosa would be too small. I remember my school tie as well.
Those who had good samosas would never have a good single knot. A double knot would be needed. This double knot will never untie itself when you pull it open.
But those days are history!
Good ties nowadays are sufficiently thick with lining inside. So whether silk or polyester, a clean single knot can make a good samosa that can be adjusted for size and open easily by just pulling it away!
Plus another tip. Always dimple the tie in the centre below the knot!
My school tie wasn't the stitched variety. It was a proper tie.
You're right about the double-knot. I knew that the samosa would never be perfect with a single knot, but I never learnt the double knot. That's what I have to do now.
Dimple bole to not bulge but cleavage? Wow, that's news to me!

I know what you mean. But I meant the opposite! Yes junior school ties are often stitched together with a fake cord that goes under the collar. But high school ties are actual ties. Just that they are made from thinner material (unlike good silk ties) and hence need double knots to get the desired samosa size!

You don't need to! Single knot more than suffice on a good silk tie (like the one you have in the pic). According to me "A tie knot is not a tie knot unless it comes off when you pull the smaller end out!". You don't need to unknot a tie, just pull it open!

Yes! I read about it in the Raymond good dressing guide!
did you see the Obama inauguration last night? Just look at the ties of all men there. Including Big-O himself!
They all had dimples!
Well that was a hard copy my mum brought home from some promo mailer in her office. But I did ask Google God and this is what he told: http://www.raymondindia.com/ss_accessories4.asp

Come over! I'll teach you!
Lesson 1. Never tie the knot before it goes around your neck.
Lesson 2. Never leave the tie knotted when it leaves your neck.
Continued... later....!
Hey, thanks Gliff!

Why suddenly, pascal?
P.S: Google god can fetch some fantastic illustrated tutorials. then it's practice.
Hey Biju! I need to be in formals on the 28th, that's why. The tie was already tied so I had no problem, but I wanted to learn how anyway.
Now that the need is over, laziness has set in and I haven't yet gone to Google/Youtube to search out some tutorials :).

No, I didn't see the ceremony. I'll check some pictures out (don't think the newspaper pictures will be too clear, though).
Also thanks for the links!
