And I guess you are only using a laptop like me!

Whatever happened to your calculator and (full size) keyboard? (Actually me too uses neither now)!

Then check the standards gone wrong :)

In fact it's laptops which don't have a dedicated numeric keypad (unless you consider the newer monster 19"/20" types from HP/Toshiba).

Desktop keyboards have a dedicated numeric keypad where that arrangement is followed (except with some keyboards I've seen in banks where 1, 2, 3 make up the top row and 7, 8, 9 the bottom).

Regarding calculators - I always thought they had those three rows just the same as pictured, with the 0 key being offset rather than being in the centre of the bottom row.

Either that or I've really forgotten how calculators look like :).
