I am not against smoking. Different people have different choices. However, I am against stuff of this nature. The Veerabhadra Swamy temple in Lepakshi is a very historic, old monument and one should not go around smoking (and then just throwing those butts) in such places.

Well - this was a difficult shot in the sense that it was not very neat (there were water puddles nearby) so I couldn't lie down on the ground and it was not stable enough to put the camera down (it's the small Lumix - the D70 could probably have stood on rough ground because of its larger base) and put it on the timer.
So that was a "guess" shot, mostly, with my wife helping me out by kneeling down a few feet behind and checking out how the scene looked in the LCD.
You're right, though. I could have moved a little bit closer to the butt to make it larger. It would have either narrowed DoF (if I focussed on the butt) or made the butt less distinguishable than it is now (if I focussed like I did for this picture).
Anyway - food for thought for me the next time I chance upon something similar.
