23-01-2008 - When I'm old and wise

APAD_20080123 (When I'm old and wise)

...I hope I can get away with fewer nicks, cuts, scratches and lesser wear-and-tear than my 50-month old cellular phone.

Lovely! Good you are getting a decent battery life still!

Some of my colleagues here complain about the "relatively poor" battery life of their Oracle-issued phones (the same model).

Lucky bums! We don't even get phone bills paid back home!

Reminds me. If my beloved 530 had not jumped out of my pocket, it too would have been 4 years old on the 24th of Jan :(

Yep - I couldn't have asked more of the battery. Li-ion batteries are good only for a certain number of recharge cycles, and per my estimate, I would have charged my phone's battery around 250 times at the most till date.

That would lead me to believe that there's actually much more life in it. Modern camera batteries (such as the EN-EL3 I use in my D70) are rated good for around 500 recharge cycles, I believe.

I have also been very lucky (touching wood) that my phone has been with me for so long. I have been careful with it, of course, and over the last couple or so months I've started treating it a little more roughly (it's had a few falls) in the knowledge that I'll in all probability be replacing it sometime this year.

Now, however, I don't know. I'll probably soldier on with it till it actually dies out. Or I'll still keep it even if I get a new phone.
